Gaudí

Next two days are characterised by Gaudí‘s works. I didn’t feel well on Tuesday morning, so we stayed at the hostel and I slept my pain away and after it was gone, we went to Sagrada Família. What I liked most about this trip was that we walked almost everywhere and took the metro only twice. And a thing I loved as a pedestrian was their large pavements. In fact, some of them were so large, that they didn’t even need separate tracks for bicycles. And talking about bikes, they were absolutely everywhere! I thought that they were many in Vienna, well, now I think there were incredibly many in Barcelona *thumbs up!*

Sagrada Família didn’t impress me that much. From the pics I’d seen, I thought it was bigger, turned out it was actually smaller than I had expected But that wasn’t the problem. I don’t know, I just found it too full of details, sculptures, it was almost ugly

But that doesn’t apply to his other works I’ve seen. The hostel we stayed in was really close Casa Battló and that one I found beautiful. The same applies to Park Güell.

I loved the trip to the park. We passed through some poorer parts of Barcelona and once the glitter and the tourists of La Rambla were gone, I could actually feel that I’m in the real Barcelona, a more private one. A Barcelona only for myself

The Sigur Rós concert took place on Wednesday night and I was taken aback to see that the people who were gathered at the entrance almost 2h befire the show were forming a queue! I mean – wow!!! I asked a guy if they always did that and he said that it was the first time he saw a queue at a concert and that it seemed that the Spanish were turning civilized The people were sitting on the pavement, eating, drinking wine, taking and even reading. Now that’s what I call bohemian attitude

And besides the fact that the concerts was INCREDIBLE, there isn’t more I can say about it. Yeah, the Icelanders rocked my night!

I’m always both surprised and impressed when arriving in a foreign country I see that things really work there. Because we arrived in Barcelona rather late at night, I was a bit panicky and stressed, not knowing what public transport we would take from there. But we just had to step outside the airport and there was a bus waiting to take us to Plaça Catalunya from where we were supposed to walk to our hostel. Pluses: the aerobus is cheap – 4.05 Euro, it has special places where you can put your bags and it comes regularly.

Following the instructions from the hostel, we arrived there after no more than a 20-minute walk. And cause we were really hungry, we left the bags in our room and we went in search of a restaurant. We were really lucky to find one very close to the hostel and the personnel there was great, feeding 2 hungry foreigners just before their closing time. I had the best salad ever there, really!

So, the first day. We’re not morning persons, so we got up at about half past 10 and we finally left the hostel at about 12 or something. First things first, we went to pick up our Sigur Rós tickets from FNAC, where I discovered the bookaholics paradise and he discovered the music-freaks paradise Ofc, I had to buy something, so I go this beauty. I can hardly wait to read it! CATS!

La Boqueria

Next destination: the popular and touristic street, La Rambla. First of all, I was totally impressed by the architecture I saw there. Vienna was wonderful too, but only there did I realise it was kind of the same. Barcelona was so diverse, so unique regarding the architecture of the buildings – it went straight to number 1 of my top of cities seen so far And another thing that I really loved about La Rambla, was the very many narrow streets on both sides. And wandering around them was like walking through different cities all the time. We discovered so many nice shops there and so many nice views. It was like a maze that surprised us at every turn.

Oh, I should not forget about the Carrefour on La Rambla, which saved us from starvation and provided us with Spanish oranges, Sunny D *loved it!!!*, sweets and so many other delights for gourmets

The Wax Museum was fun and scary at the same time and the harbour was impressive. I don’t know where we went next and what we saw, because we preferred just to wander around and not look at the guide/map all the time. Truth is that we walked a lot in those 4 days and my feet could barely put up with that. At the end of the day I was so beat, that I could hardly wait to get to bed. But it was worth the pain and the fatigue. Truly worth it
