(25-26.04.2015)
We started late one Saturday afternoon from Bucharest and we arrived in the village next to Veliko Tarnovo at around 5. We left our bags in the room and went by car to the crags where our friends were supposed to be climbing. It took some driving around until we found the dirt road to the monastery. From the parking lot we hiked through the forest and it brought back so many memories from my first climbing trip.
We couldn’t find anyone at the crags so we decided to go on top of the crags and watch the sunset. It was fantastic! I had never been there before and the view was splendid. Too bad we had just one headlamp with us… the way down and through the forest kinda reminded me of The Blair Witch Project :D
The next day we went back there and we climbed. Well, actually, to tell you the truth, we spent a lot of time looking at the routes, talking about them, evaluating them, talking with other people, looking at other climbers. The routes there seemed way harder, since I was trying to lead climb, than two years ago, when I top-roped them. In the end we left the climbing to the professionals and we just hung around.
Because we are creatures of habit, afterwards we went to Ego, where, before even taking my place at the table, I asked the waitress to put aside a slice of Ego cake for me (as I always do; they have THE BEST meringue strawberry cake in the world)! So we sat, and talked, and ATE a lot, and talked… there are some really awesome people in the climbing community! In the end we had to get back to Bucharest, but we’ll be back. We always go back to Veliko Tarnovo.
So glad the day didn’t end up like the movie….lol…
