It’s 2014 already and I have so many stories to tell from 2013! It was a fabulous year for me, one of the best so far, and I am eager to write everything down so I don’t forget it.
On a splendid October morning we went to Brătilești. It was going to be our first (and to this day our last) day bouldering on real boulders. There was a small get-together there and everyone knew everyone, except for us. But the people were friendly and nice and they showed us which were the V-stupidly-easy boulders and gave us a crash mat. From there on we were on our own.
What can I say… it was a hell of an experience! Rock climbing is soooo easy compared to bouldering! At least you know that if you clip in the first 2-3 quickdraws you are *almost* safe. Well, in bouldering it’s all about luck and technique and guts. Lots and lots of guts. Oh, and you also need a good plan before climbing, which we realised too late. And something else: unlike normal rock, boulders are covered in a thin/thick layer of dust and sand and vegetation and it’s bloody slippery! You can only hold and put your foot on the parts that have been cleaned – again, it took us some time to stop trying to beat the system.
We totally conquered the first two boulders, but the third one was scary high and I just tried some moves at the bottom. Unfortunately, Adi slipped and fractured his ankle so the fun was over instantly. A rough 1,5-month period followed but now he’s fine and he is climbing again, so yay for him! As for real nature bouldering, I would love to try it again, but I know my limits and I’m sure as hell that I don’t want to push them.
